About the District
The Fort McHenry District exists first and foremost to support and strengthen Scouting units across Baltimore City. As part of the Baltimore Area Council of Scouting America, our role is to ensure that Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Exploring posts have the resources, guidance, and support they need to deliver a high-quality Scouting program to every youth they serve.
We work behind the scenes and alongside unit leaders to remove obstacles, build capacity, and help units thrive—so that volunteers can focus on what matters most: mentoring young people and delivering meaningful Scouting experiences.
How We Support Our Units
The Fort McHenry District provides hands-on support to local units in a variety of ways, including:
Commissioner Service: Unit Commissioners serve as trusted advisors to unit leaders, offering coaching, problem-solving, and ongoing support to help units succeed and grow.
Leader Training: We organize and promote training opportunities to equip adult leaders with the skills, confidence, and tools needed to run safe, engaging, and effective programs.
Program & Events: The district plans camporees, activities, and special events that supplement unit programs and create memorable experiences for Scouts.
Membership & Growth Support: We assist units with recruiting youth and adult volunteers, school and community outreach, and strategies to sustain and grow strong units.
Advancement & Recognition: We help units navigate advancement processes and celebrate the achievements of Scouts and leaders.
Problem Solving & Advocacy: When challenges arise, the district helps connect units with council resources and advocates on their behalf.
