What is the Fort McHenry District?
The Fort McHenry District exists to support Scouting units across Baltimore City. Everything we do is focused on helping Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, Venturing crews, and Exploring posts deliver a strong, safe, and engaging Scouting program for the youth they serve.
As part of the Baltimore Area Council of Scouting America, the district serves as your primary connection to council resources, training, events, and support. Our goal is simple: to make it easier for unit leaders and committees to succeed, so you can focus on mentoring Scouts and delivering meaningful experiences.
How the District Supports Your Unit
The Fort McHenry District provides direct, practical support to units in a variety of ways:
- Commissioner Support
Each unit is assigned a Unit Commissioner who serves as a trusted advisor and point of contact. Commissioners provide coaching, help identify solutions to challenges, and connect units with council and district resources. - Leader Training and Development
The district promotes and coordinates training opportunities to ensure adult leaders are prepared, confident, and equipped to deliver a quality Scouting program. - District Programs and Events
District activities, camporees, and special events are designed to complement unit programs and provide shared experiences that enhance what units are already doing. - Membership and Growth Support
The district assists units with recruiting youth and adult volunteers, planning joining efforts, and developing strategies for long-term sustainability. - Advancement and Recognition Support
We help units navigate advancement processes, boards of review, and recognition opportunities for Scouts and adult leaders. - Advocacy and Problem Solving
When challenges arise—programmatic, administrative, or organizational—the district helps advocate for units and connects leaders with the appropriate council support.
The District’s Role in Your Scouting Program
Your unit delivers Scouting directly to youth. The Fort McHenry District exists to support that work, not to replace it.
By strengthening unit leadership, providing resources, and offering guidance when needed, the district helps ensure meetings run smoothly, outings are successful, leaders feel supported, and Scouts experience the full promise of Scouting.
District Volunteers Working for You
The Fort McHenry District is led by dedicated volunteers serving on the District Committee and Commissioner team. Many are current or former unit leaders who understand the realities of running meetings, managing committees, and balancing Scouting with family and work responsibilities.
These volunteers work closely with the professional staff of the Baltimore Area Council to ensure units receive consistent, responsive, and effective support.
Our Commitment to Units
We are committed to being accessible, responsive, and supportive partners to every Scouting unit in the Fort McHenry District.
Whether your unit is newly formed or long-established, growing or rebuilding, running smoothly or facing challenges, the district is here to help.
